THE IMPORTANCE OF SEERAH OF THE PROPHET (ﷺ) IN THE LIGHT OF THE QUR’AN AND SUNNAH AND ITS PRACTICAL RELEVANCE IN THE CONTEMPORARY ERA

Abstract

This research paper presents a comprehensive and analytical study of the concept, significance, and practical relevance of the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in the light of the Qur’an and Sunnah. The Seerah of the Prophet (ﷺ) represents the practical manifestation of Islamic teachings and serves as a complete source of guidance for all aspects of human life. The initial section of this study examines the literal and terminological meanings of Seerah, clarifying that it is not merely a narration of historical events or life incidents; rather, it encompasses the entire blessed life of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), including his character, habits, worship, social dealings, missionary struggle, political wisdom, and societal role.
The second section provides an analytical study of Qur’anic verses in which the Prophet (ﷺ) has been described as Uswah Hasanah (the best example), Rahmat lil-‘Alamin (mercy to all worlds), a teacher of humanity, and a perfect guide. Furthermore, the Qur’an emphasizes the practical significance of the Prophetic Seerah by linking obedience to the Prophet (ﷺ) with obedience to Allah.
The third section explores various dimensions of the Prophet’s life through the lens of Hadith, particularly his exemplary morals, educational methods, justice, compassion, and commitment to human welfare.
The findings of this research demonstrate that the Seerah of the Prophet (ﷺ) offers a complete practical model for every age and plays a fundamental role in moral development, social stability, and the establishment of an ideal Islamic society.
