THE PRESERVATION OF LIFE AND INTELLECT AND THEIR IMPACT ON ACHIEVING SECURITY AND SOCIAL STABILITY

Abstract

This article discusses the preservation of life and the preservation of intellect as two of the five essential objectives of Islamic law. It explains their meanings, their importance in Islam, and the methods established by Islamic teachings to protect them from both positive and preventive aspects.

The preservation of life is achieved through lawful marriage, proper nutrition, medical treatment, and the permission of concessions in cases of necessity. It is also achieved by protecting people from murder, suicide, and all forms of physical harm, as well as through the legislation of retaliation (Qisas), blood money (Diyah), and other deterrent punishments that safeguard human life.

The preservation of intellect is achieved by encouraging learning, reflection, and critical thinking, and by protecting the mind from anything that may corrupt or impair it, such as intoxicants, drugs, sorcery, and deviant ideas. Islamic law also prescribes measures and penalties to protect human awareness and sound judgment.

The article further explains that preserving life and intellect plays a major role in establishing security and social stability. Preserving life promotes safety, reduces crime, revenge, and conflicts, and strengthens social solidarity. Preserving intellect helps prevent crime and deviation, protects society from extremism and misleading ideas, and supports development, productivity, and economic stability.

The article also highlights the complementary relationship between life and intellect. A sound intellect helps protect life, while a protected life provides the proper environment for the intellect to function effectively. Together, they contribute to comprehensive security, social stability, and the development of civilization based on justice, peace, and progress.

The article concludes that Islamic law provides a complete system for protecting both human life and intellect, making them a foundation for security, stability, and the building of a strong, safe, and prosperous society.
