Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a quantum leap in education technology that has the potential to revolutionize education. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an educational technology paradigm providing unprecedented possibilities to individualize learning, improve teacher effectiveness and optimize institutional processes. This comprehensive SLR brings together the results of 70 peer-reviewed studies from various academic databases, including Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC and ScienceDirect, published during 2019-2025. The study examines multifaceted applications of AI in education, intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning platforms, learning analytics, and generative AI tools, like ChatGPT. While AI holds great potential to improve the learning experiences and results of students, challenges must be addressed, such as algorithmic bias, data privacy concerns, digital equity, teacher readiness and ethical governance. This review, instead of simply describing the work, recognizes key research gaps, lay the foundation for an integrated conceptual framework on how to implement AI in educational transformation, and makes recommendations grounded in evidence for policymakers, educators and technologists. The review emphasizes the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, strong ethical guidelines, professional development for educators, and the need for policies that are contextually appropriate and mitigate the global digital divide in responsible implementation of AI. Looking forward, future directions highlight the importance of conducting impact studies over time, designing AI tools with cultural sensitivity, and remaining focused on preserving human-centered education in the era of technology.
