Abstract

The UN has created a set of norms for resolving the conflict, but in a context of deep-seated political animosities and competing national narratives, implementing them may be difficult. The ongoing disconnection between the hopes and ideals of UN resolutions and their implementation is indicative of a broader problem in international governance in the context of sovereignty claims. This research is both theoretical and practical, as it provides an understanding of the issues and opportunities ahead for arriving at a peaceful and legal resolution.
