The teacher–student relationship is an important part of education and plays a big role in the development of human personality. Islamic teachings give great importance to this relationship and highlight respect, trust, kindness, and gentleness as basic parts of good teaching. This article looks at these values in the teacher–student relationship in the light of Islamic teachings and modern educational psychology. It is based on the Qur’an, Hadith, classical Muslim scholars, and modern thinkers such as Thorndike, Freire, Parker J. Palmer, and Seifert and Sutton. The study shows that a good and trust-based relationship between teacher and student helps in better learning as well as in moral and character development. On the other hand, arrogance, harsh behaviour, and lack of consistency make the learning environment weak. Kindness, humility, and good communication help create a better learning environment. The study concludes that many problems in education today can be solved by following Islamic principles of education, the teaching style of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), and moral values. Therefore, respect, kindness, and gentleness should be an important part of teaching and learning.
