The status of the Prophetic Hadith as an independent source of Islamic law and an essential source of Quranic exegesis has remained a fundamental issue in Islamic scholarship throughout history. In contemporary discourse, however, certain interpretive trends have re-examined the epistemological status of Hadith, the concept of Sunnah, the authority of solitary reports (Khabar e Wahid), and the relationship between the Quran, Sunnah, and Arabic language in understanding religion. This study critically examines these issues by focusing specifically on the intellectual approach of the Farahi school of thought and its prominent representatives, including Ameen Ahsan Islahi, and Javeeed Ahmad Ghamidi. It analyzes their views regarding the sources of religion, the definition of Sunnah, the authority of solitary reports in matters of religion and Quranic interpretation, the issue of stoning (Rajm), and the role of Quranic coherence (Nazm ul Quran) and classical Arabic in exegesis. These perspectives are then compared with the established position of the Quran, authentic Sunnah, the Companions, and the majority of Sunni scholars. The study concludes that while contemporary reinterpretations have contributed to modern academic discussions, restricting the authority of Hadith as a source of religion and Quranic exegesis raises significant methodological and doctrinal concerns and departs from the classical scholarly tradition.
