Shared Moral Values and the Establishment of Global Peace in the Abrahamic Religions: A Thematic Study

Abstract

The establishment of global peace remains one of the most significant challenges confronting contemporary humanity. Despite remarkable advances in science, technology, communication, international law, and human rights, the modern world continues to experience wars, religious and ethnic conflicts, extremism, violence, discrimination, social injustice, and growing polarization. In this context, the moral teachings of the Abrahamic religions—Islam, Judaism, and Christianity—offer significant ethical resources for promoting peaceful coexistence and constructive human relations. This study explores the shared moral values found within these religious traditions and examines their potential contribution to the establishment of global peace. Employing a thematic and comparative approach, the research focuses on justice and fairness, mercy and forgiveness, human compassion, truthfulness, trustworthiness, human dignity, religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence, reconciliation, and conflict resolution. The study argues that, despite their theological and doctrinal distinctions, the Abrahamic religions possess significant areas of ethical convergence that can provide a common moral framework for interreligious dialogue and cooperation. Particular attention is given to the practical relevance of these shared values in addressing contemporary challenges such as extremism, hatred, violence, social fragmentation, religious intolerance, and intercultural tensions. The research further examines how these ethical principles can strengthen social harmony, facilitate interfaith and intercultural dialogue, and encourage cooperation among religious communities at local and global levels. It concludes that the effective application of shared moral values, while respecting the distinctive theological identities of each religious tradition, can contribute meaningfully to conflict transformation, mutual respect, social justice, and sustainable global peace. Thus, the ethical common ground among the Abrahamic religions represents an important resource for developing peaceful, inclusive, and cooperative societies in the contemporary world.
