Pashtun society has historically been organized around tribal frameworks, customary laws, and ethical codes such as Pashtunwali. These traditional structures emphasized honor, hospitality, collective responsibility, and dispute resolution through Jirga systems. However, modern developments including urbanization, education, globalization, and media exposure have significantly transformed these long-standing cultural patterns. This study examines the evolution of cultural trends and social transformations within the Pashtun society Pashtun from a historical, sociological, and Islamic perspective. The study focuses on the interaction between traditional tribal structures and modern influences, highlighting how both continuity and change coexist in shaping contemporary Pashtun identity. The purpose of this research was to analyze the dynamic relationship between traditional and modern cultural elements in Pashtun society. It also aims to evaluate these cultural trends in light of Islamic principles to determine which practices align with Sharia and which require reform or reinterpretation. This study adopts a qualitative research design based on secondary data sources. The data has been collected from academic books, peer-reviewed journals, anthropological studies, and Islamic scholarly works. Thematic analysis is used to interpret cultural patterns, social changes, and religious perspectives. A comparative approach is applied to examine differences between traditional and modern structures. The findings reveal that Pashtun society is experiencing a hybrid cultural transformation. While traditional institutions such as Jirga and Pashtunwali remain influential, their authority has been partially replaced by state institutions, legal systems, and modern governance structures. Education and media have reshaped youth perspectives, leading to changes in family structure, gender roles, and social values. Despite these changes, religious identity continues to play a central role in maintaining cultural cohesion. The study concludes that Pashtun society is neither purely traditional nor fully modern but exists in a transitional hybrid state. The coexistence of tradition and modernity reflects an ongoing cultural negotiation. Sustainable development of this society depends on balancing cultural heritage with modern institutional frameworks while ensuring alignment with Islamic ethical principles.
