Types and Features of Clothing in Sahih-ul-Bukhari’s Kitab-ul-Libas: A Study of Textiles, Styles and Expressions

Abstract

Clothing is a basic human need. Clothing is a source of dignity and adornment for a person. Clothing has many effects on a person's behavior, personality, environment civilization and culture. Like other rules and issues in Islam, there are detailed rules regarding clothing. Sharia has expanded the rules regarding clothing considerably. It has taken full account of civilization and culture and protection from seasonal effects. Therefore, Sharia has only guided towards principles, regulations and laws. Like other chapters in the books of hadith, there is also the Chapter of Clothing, which describes clothing and the rules related to it. It contains important guidance on the characteristics, types, structure, materials and styles of clothing. This topic has been discussed and researched in the light of the Book of Clothing in Sahih-ul-Bukhari. There are about forty words related to clothing in these chapters. They have been explained, defined and guidance has been obtained from them in the light of the Prophetic teachings so that our clothing and its accessories can be subject to the Sharia. The explanation of these words has provided guidance on the types of clothing, their characteristics, materials, suitability and prohibition, and what is recommended and what is disliked.
