Abstract

The Qur’an is the final divine scripture revealed for the guidance and reform of humanity. Among its distinctive methods of guidance is the narration of the stories of earlier prophets, righteous people, and nations. These narratives are not merely historical accounts; rather, they provide moral instruction, spiritual purification, intellectual reflection, and effective means of conveying divine guidance. This study examines the moral and propagational principles derived from Qur’anic narratives, with particular reference to Tafsir al-Jalalayn by Jalal al-Din al-Mahalli and Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti.The significance of this research lies in highlighting the practical guidance embedded within Qur’anic stories and demonstrating their relevance to contemporary individual and social life. Although numerous studies have discussed Qur’anic narratives, limited attention has been given to systematically examining their moral and da‘wah-oriented principles through the concise interpretive framework of Tafsir al-Jalalayn. This study therefore addresses this gap by analyzing selected narratives and identifying principles applicable to ethical development and Islamic preaching. The study aims to identify moral values, da‘wah principles, and practical guidance contained in selected Qur’anic narratives, while examining how Tafsir al-Jalalayn explains these dimensions. It also considers the methodological limits of deriving legal rulings from narrative passages. The research employs a qualitative, analytical, and thematic approach. Selected Qur’anic verses concerning Musa, Yusuf, Shu‘ayb, and other prophets are examined through Tafsir al-Jalalayn, supported by relevant Qur’anic passages, Prophetic Sunnah, and principles of Islamic jurisprudence. The findings demonstrate that the narratives emphasize patience, reliance upon Allah, repentance, chastity, forgiveness, justice, honesty, self-control, steadfastness, and resistance to oppression. The story of Shu‘ayb emphasizes economic justice and commercial honesty, while Musa’s encounter with Pharaoh illustrates wisdom, gentleness, and appropriate speech in preaching. Yusuf exemplifies chastity, patience, trustworthiness, and forgiveness. The study concludes that Qur’anic narratives form a comprehensive moral and da‘wah curriculum. They connect faith with character, worship with social responsibility, and preaching with exemplary conduct. Contemporary application requires contextual understanding and consideration of Sunnah, jurisprudential principles, and the objectives of Shari‘ah.
