Environmental degradation, particularly due to deforestation, has become a pressing challenge in Pakistan, contributing to severe climate shifts, urban heatwaves, water scarcity, and loss of biodiversity. In response to this crisis, it is crucial to revisit the environmental ethics embedded in the Seerah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, whose teachings provide a timeless framework for ecological responsibility. This paper explores the Prophetic guidance on tree plantation, preservation of greenery, and sustainable interaction with nature, as recorded in Hadith literature and classical Islamic sources. It highlights how the Prophet ﷺ encouraged planting trees as acts of charity (sadaqah), forbade unnecessary destruction of vegetation even during wartime, and promoted the conservation of natural resources. Drawing parallels between these teachings and Pakistan’s current environmental challenges, the study argues that integrating Prophetic environmental ethics into public policy, educational curricula, and religious discourse can foster a culture of ecological stewardship. Furthermore, the paper examines how religious leadership, inspired by the Seerah, can play a pivotal role in reversing harmful trends such as unplanned urbanization and mass tree-cutting. The research concludes by proposing a faith-based model of environmental activism rooted in the Prophetic tradition, urging governmental and civil institutions to recognize the relevance of Islamic ecological values in shaping a sustainable future for Pakistan.
