The Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ occupies a foundational position in Islamic studies, representing both a spiritual and historical framework for understanding Islam. This research explores the Seerah with a particular focus on its introduction, sources, and references, providing an in-depth analysis of the scholarly tradition surrounding it. The study begins by discussing the importance of Seerah as a guiding model for Muslims in religious, social, political, and ethical dimensions of life. It then examines the primary sources that form the basis of Seerah literature, including the Qur’an, Hadith collections, and early biographical works such as those of Ibn Ishaq, Ibn Hisham, al-Waqidi, and Ibn Sa‘d. These works not only provide historical details but also reflect the context, values, and challenges faced by the Prophet ﷺ and his community. The research further addresses the classification of sources into primary and secondary categories, highlighting the need for critical evaluation regarding authenticity, reliability, and historiographical significance. Additionally, it sheds light on the contribution of modern scholarship and contemporary methodologies, which apply historical, sociological, and interdisciplinary perspectives to the study of the Prophet’s life. The paper argues that studying Seerah with a balance of reverence and academic rigor not only deepens Muslim understanding but also bridges gaps in global scholarship, allowing non-Muslims to engage with the Prophet’s ﷺ legacy. This comprehensive study thus underscores the timeless relevance of Seerah in shaping both historical knowledge and contemporary Muslim identity.
