Abstract

This research explores the presence of mysticism (Tasawwuf) as a shared thematic and philosophical element in the poetry of two prominent 18th-century Urdu poets: Mir Taqi Mir and Khwaja Mir Dard. While Mir is known for his deeply emotional and introspective poetry, and Dard for his explicit Sufi identity, both poets reflect key Sufi concepts such as divine love, self-annihilation (fana), detachment from the material world, and spiritual longing. Mir's poetry often subtly incorporates mystical undertones through expressions of sorrow, longing, and existential pain. In contrast, Dard presents a more conscious and doctrinal form of Sufi thought, grounded in the Naqshbandi tradition. Despite stylistic differences, both poets emphasize the soul's journey toward the Divine and use symbolic language to express inner transformation. This comparative analysis concludes that mysticism in their poetry is not merely a theme but a profound spiritual lens through which both poets interpret human experience and poetic expression.
