Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are considered the backbone of any economy, particularly in developing countries like Pakistan. Despite their importance, SMEs face various financial and operational challenges, especially in the domain of cash transactions. This study aims to explore the major issues related to cash-based buying and selling faced by SMEs, such as delayed payments, lack of liquidity, reliance on interest-based loans, and the absence of transparent contracts. The research further analyzes these problems from the perspective of Islamic Shari'ah and proposes practical, Shari'ah-compliant alternatives. By examining Islamic financial principles such as Murabaha, Mudarabah, Musharakah, Ijarah, and Salam, the study provides a structured framework for implementing ethical and interest-free commercial practices within the SME sector. The goal is to bridge the gap between commercial viability and religious adherence, helping SMEs achieve both financial sustainability and spiritual accountability.
