Abstract

This research paper presents an in-depth analytical and comparative study titled “Islam and the Training Challenges of Punjab Police.” It aims to examine how the Islamic framework of education, discipline, and moral purification can provide sustainable solutions to the ethical and operational weaknesses observed in the Punjab Police training system. In Islamic thought, the foundation of training (Tarbiyah) is not merely physical or intellectual preparation; it encompasses the holistic development of a person’s moral, spiritual, and social dimensions. The Holy Prophet Muhammad established a training model for his companions (Sahabah) that combined strict discipline with high moral standards, self-accountability, and devotion to justice. This paper argues that the same prophetic training principles—rooted in Tazkiyah (spiritual purification), Amanah (trustworthiness), Adl (justice), and Ihsan (excellence in performance)—remain essential for building a professional, disciplined, and morally upright police force. The Punjab Police faces several structural and behavioral challenges, including inadequate moral orientation, lack of empathy in dealing with the public, political interference, and outdated training methodologies. These issues reflect a gap between technical skill and ethical consciousness. By comparing the Islamic model of character building with the modern system of police training, this study identifies critical shortcomings and proposes reforms based on Islamic educational philosophy. The research concludes that true reform in the police department is impossible without integrating spiritual accountability, ethical sensitivity, and professional discipline into its training modules. The study thus provides a comprehensive framework for aligning the Punjab Police’s professional standards with the moral ideals of Islam, ensuring justice, compassion, and public trust as the cornerstones of law enforcement.
