Abstract

Faiz Ahmed Faiz is widely recognized as one of the most celebrated poets of Urdu literature; however, he also made a noteworthy contribution to Punjabi poetry. Although limited in quantity, his Punjabi poetic corpus reflects the same artistic excellence, ideological depth, and humanistic vision that characterize his Urdu works. This article explores Faiz’s Punjabi poetry through a thematic and stylistic analysis of his seven Punjabi poems, which are included in his published poetic collections. The study examines the expression of love for Punjab, attachment to the mother tongue, cultural consciousness, social commitment, and progressive thought embedded in these poems. It also highlights the linguistic simplicity, emotional intensity, and symbolic richness that distinguish Faiz’s Punjabi verse. The analysis demonstrates that, despite its brevity, Faiz’s Punjabi poetry occupies a significant place in Punjabi literary tradition and serves as an important extension of his broader poetic vision. The article concludes that Faiz successfully employed Punjabi as a medium to articulate his emotional, cultural, and ideological concerns, thereby enriching both Punjabi and South Asian literary heritage.
