Abstract

Dr. Khwaja Abdul Hameed Yazdani stands out as one of the most versatile literary figures whose scholarly contributions span across multiple genres of Urdu and Persian literature. His intellectual brilliance was evident from his student years when his literary essays began to appear in Imroze, one of the most esteemed newspapers of that time. His debut article, “Jafar Zatalli and His Serious Poetry”, immediately positioned him as a promising young critic with a sharp grasp of literary analysis. During his M.A. in Persian, Yazdani’s creative versatility was further established through his satirical essay “Hakeem Seetanas Hajjaam Papoori”, which was presented in an academic gathering chaired by the distinguished scholar Dr. Syed Abdullah. This parody of classical tazkiras not only reflected his wit and humor but also underscored his innovative engagement with literary traditions. Yazdani’s works range across translation, criticism, research, and poetry, each adding a distinctive dimension to Urdu’s scholarly heritage. His writings reveal both intellectual rigor and creative depth, making him an indispensable figure for students of Urdu literature. Many of his works, though not widely known, serve as invaluable treasures for contemporary researchers, offering insights into literary criticism, historical perspectives, and stylistic analysis. This paper undertakes an introductory and analytical study of Yazdani’s contributions, highlighting his significance in the broader literary landscape. By drawing attention to his lesser-known yet impactful works, the study seeks to preserve and promote awareness of these hidden intellectual treasures. In doing so, it underscores the need for renewed academic engagement with rare scholarly and literary resources in Pakistan.
