A CONCISE HISTORICAL OVERVIEW OF THE LITERARY SOCIETIES AND COUNCILS OF THE SUDHUM REGION

Abstract

The tradition of Pashto literary organizations and cultural councils is a living symbol of the intellectual and artistic spirit of the Pashtoon nation. These esteemed institutions, deeply rooted in a rich historical legacy, have progressively expanded over time. They have played a significant role not only in the development, promotion, and preservation of the Pashto language and literature but also in nurturing the intellectual taste, aesthetic sensibility, and literary awareness of the people. Through poetic discourse, scholarly gatherings, and collective expression, these literary forums have elevated the cultural consciousness of Pashtoon society.

Over time, various literary organizations and councils have been established across Pashtoon regions, among which the area of Sudhum holds a prominent and literature-loving place. Situated in District Mardan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sudhum is a beautiful, fertile valley surrounded by mountains. It is not only historically and culturally important but also rich in literary heritage. The region has produced many renowned poets, writers, and intellectuals, including Amir Hamzullah Baba, Fazal Akbar Nishtar, Syed Nawab Mama, Rahim Gul Baba, Abdul Ghafar Akhgar, Qiyas Gul Babo, Zarin Khan Zarin, Shams-ur-Rehman Chishti, Usman Din Usman, Salim Khan Salim, Nazir Yousafzai, Tariq Kausar, and many others.
