This article analyzes the claims of the orientalist W. Montgomery Watt concerning the alleged Jewish influence on Islam. Watt suggests that certain Islamic beliefs and practices developed from Jewish traditions, particularly during the Medinan period. This study critically examines these claims through evidence from the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and early Islamic sources. The analysis demonstrates that Watt’s arguments rely on selective historical interpretation and a limited understanding of Islamic teachings. The similarities between Islam and Judaism are shown to result from their common divine origin rather than from imitation or borrowing. The article concludes that Islam emerged as an independent revealed religion with its own theological and legal framework, and that Watt’s claims lack solid scholarly support.
