(THE ROLE OF MEN IN STRENGTHENING THE FAMILY SYSTEM: AN ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE)
Abstract
The family is the foundational unit of any society, and its stability largely depends on the responsible and ethical role of men within it. This research critically examines the role of men in the family system from an Islamic perspective, integrating Qur’anic guidance, Prophetic traditions, classical Islamic scholarship, and contemporary social theories. The study highlights that Islam does not view men merely as economic providers, but as moral leaders, educators, and reformers within the household. Core Islamic principles such as justice, consultation (shūrā), patience, forgiveness, and reconciliation are analyzed as essential mechanisms for maintaining family harmony and resolving domestic conflicts.
The research further explores modern challenges faced by families, including economic pressures, digital media influence, individualism, and the impact of Western cultural models. It argues that neglecting Islamic ethical foundations exacerbates family disintegration, whereas adherence to Qur’an and Sunnah offers sustainable and practical solutions. By drawing upon both traditional sources and modern sociological literature, this study presents a balanced framework in which men can effectively fulfill their responsibilities while preserving Islamic identity in contemporary society. The findings aim to contribute to academic discourse on Islamic family studies and provide practical guidance for educators, policymakers, and family counselors.
