Abstract

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ

“O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones” [i].

Divine revelation places the ultimate responsibility of safeguarding a family’s spiritual and moral compass squarely on the shoulders of the father. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) practically demonstrated this divine mandate by manifesting immense affection, psychological support, and active engagement with children, effectively dismantling the harsh pre-Islamic patriarchal norms. In modern times, relentless economic pressures and unchecked materialistic pursuits have largely reduced the paternal role to mere financial provision. This study critically explores the psychological, moral, and social consequences of a father’s emotional and physical absence on child development. Drawing upon a qualitative, text-based analysis of the Prophetic biography and classical Islamic jurisprudence alongside insights from modern psychology, the research investigates how paternal neglect fosters deep-seated emotional insecurities, rebellious behavior, and severe alienation from religious obligations. A father's active presence serves as an irreplaceable institutional pillar for cognitive and moral growth. When fathers distance themselves from the emotional and religious upbringing of their offspring, children inevitably become vulnerable to contemporary ideological crises, digital isolation, and moral decay. The Prophetic model directly counters this modern dilemma by emphasizing physical affection, open dialogue, mutual respect, and active religious mentoring. True child-rearing demands a holistic approach where fathers must reclaim their divinely ordained role as engaged moral guardians. Reintegrating the compassionate, attentive, and deeply involved methodology of the Prophet (peace be upon him) remains entirely essential for nurturing a resilient, confident, and spiritually grounded generation in today's fractured society.
