A Study of the Methodologies and Approaches in Selected Works on Mushkilāt al-Qur’ān and Their Significance and Relevance in the Contemporary Era: A Research Study
Abstract
This study explores the concept of Mushkilat al-Quran (the difficulties of the Quran) within the context of Quranic exegesis, focusing on the interpretation of complex and ambiguous verses. As the final divine revelation, the Quran contains intricate linguistic, historical, and rhetorical elements that require scholarly scrutiny for accurate understanding. This investigation examines Mushkilat al-Quran as it functions within Tafsir (Quranic exegesis) to provide proper interpretations, counteracting misconstrued theological readings. The research analyzes the methods of classical Islamic scholars, including Imam al-Sarakhsī, Sayyid Sharif al-Jurjani, and Allama Alusi, highlighting their use of linguistic studies, historical context, and rhetorical precision to address Quranic ambiguities. A thorough understanding of complex Quranic verses demands expertise in both unfamiliar Quranic vocabulary and the syntactical structures of classical Arabic. This study delves into the peculiarities of Quranic word usage, particularly through Ghara'ib al-Quran (the peculiarities of the Quran), to underscore the importance of specialists in classical Arabic and meticulous textual evaluation for accurate interpretation. By analyzing the contributions of key scholars, the research emphasizes the necessity of academic rigor in the interpretation of challenging Quranic passages. The study further highlights the ongoing relevance of Mushkilat al-Quran in preserving the Quran's authenticity across generations, underscoring the importance of careful, methodical interpretation of difficult verses. In conclusion, this research advances the scholarly understanding of Mushkilat al-Quran as a critical field of Islamic scholarship, stressing the need for precise interpretative methods to ensure the accurate comprehension of the sacred text.
